10.03.2010

No to Domestic Violence! Campaign, which organized a magnificent fundraising concert last year for the Domestic Violence Hotline, brougth famous male singers together this year to sing for women.

Some of the best male voices of Turkey such as Cihan Okan, Ferhat Göcer, Kenan Doğulu, Mirkelam & Kargo, Mustafa Ceceli, Teoman, Yalın and Yüksek Sadakat sang their favorite songs to support the No to Domestic Violence! Campaign on March 8.

Presented by Yekta Kopan, the concert was organized with the support of Most Production at Lütfü Kırdar Convention Center and as last year, Behzat Gerceker’s Enbe Orchestra accompanied the artists.

The concert’s income was donated to Domestic Violence Hotline.

Why to make this concert?
To increase awareness and create financial resources for Domestic Violence Hotline, which has been providing legal, psychological and security support to women subjected to domestic violence for two years.

Why Güldünya Songs?
A victim of domestic violence at a very young age, Güldünya Tören became the symbol of domestic violence in Turkey. All her fault was to be with someone not approved by her parents and she was shot on a street in Istanbul. She survived. But while in the intensive care unit of a hospital, her brothers thinking the “job” was not finished showed up and easily killed her. Her parents who were supposed to care for her were in fact her murderers.

Güldünya Concerts becoming traditional
This year by making a concert of male singers, Hürriyet drew attention to the fact that domestic violence is not only a women’s problem but rather an issue for all and it can only be diminished if fought against by the whole society.
