Bosphorus University Engineering Club handed out the “Bosphorus Business World Awards” with new categories during this year’s awards ceremony. Receiving the “Businesswoman of the Year” award during the event, as voted by the University student body, Doğan Group Chairwoman Begümhan Doğan Faralyalı spoke to the students. Faralyalı said, “The origin of your dreams should neither be your mother, nor your father. Nor they should be based on your professors or your neighbors. You should be the very source of your own dreams. Find the seed within you, plant it and let it blossom.” The annual “Bosphorus Business World Awards” held by the Bosphorus University expanded this year with new categories in addition to the traditional “Businessman of the Year” and “Businesswoman of the Year” awards. Based on polls among club members and alumni as part of the “Management Study with Executives” (MSE) business world, management and leadership conference, this year’s “Businesswoman of the Year” award went to Doğan Group Chairwoman Begümhan Doğan Faralyalı, while Yıldız Group of Companies Chairman Murat Ülker received the “Businessman of the Year” honors. TÜPRAŞ was given the “Industrial Company of the Year” award during the event where businesswoman Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan, Gedik Group Chairwoman Hülya Gedik and Acıbadem Health Group Chairman Mehmet Ali Aydınlar received the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

Be the source of your own dreams

The awards were handed at the ceremony held at Garanti Kültür Merkezi, located at the Bosphorus University Uçaksavar Campus. Doğan Group Chairwoman Begümhan Doğan Faralyalı received her award from Professor Salih Tuğ. Speaking after receiving her award, Begümhan Doğan Faralyalı thanked everyone and said, “This award makes me very happy, and proud at the same time. It was 1995 when I started college, exactly 20 years ago. I was thinking on my way here, of all I know today, if there was anything I wish I had known then. Two things came to my mind, and I would like to share them with you. First of these two is the importance of recognizing, discovering and knowing yourself. As you all know, it is really tough to row against the current. I think it is equally a tough battle trying to live a life without knowing yourself. This is why I would advise you to get to know yourself, and live with the awareness of doing what makes you feel good, what gives you energy, and what drains you. The origin of your dreams should be neither your mother, nor your father. Nor they should be based on your professors or your neighbors. You should be the very source of your own dreams. Find the seed within you, plant it and let it blossom. And, as for the second thought, find yourself mentors who will lead the way, be your fellow, someone who will really lend you an ear and point you in the right direction. These two are both very important.”

Our country truly needs successful young individuals like you

Businessman of the Year award recipient Murat Ülker was unable to attend the evening, and Senem Erdil received his award on his behalf. Receiving her award in person thanks to a last minute schedule change, Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan said, “Our country truly needs successful young individuals like you, and, it always will. I am proud of you all.” Award recipients stepped on the stage after the ceremony
