Doğan Value Awards

The Doğan Value Awards granted for the first time last year as part of Doğan Group's 60th foundation anniversary celebrations have been organized for the second time this year and were broadcast live online due to the global pandemic. Created in light of Doğan Group's values, the Doğan Value and Seniority Awards have been awarded to recipients during the end of year gathering held on Wednesday, 23rd of December.

In her opening speech, Doğan Group Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Begüm Doğan Faralyalı stated that the year 2020 has been unforgettable with great social and economic ordeals, and said "The pandemic brought with itself important lessons and transformations. While, on one hand, technology has been very quickly adopted, on the other, the disease has proven how interdependent all societies and countries are. We have learned that, as humanity, we are only as strong as our weakest link is. We have witnessed that different societies and countries cannot protect themselves by building big walls, and that, as humanity, we can only build better futures as long as we work together." Faralyalı pointed to the importance of "good leadership" and "women" in this process.

Expressing that Doğan Group was able to close the year with positive results by embracing change and giving timely decisions, Begüm Doğan Faralyalı indicated that the Group of companies responded rapidly to the President's call and swiftly turned their focus on contributing to the alleviation of the negative impact of the pandemic on society. Explaining that the pandemic has also demonstrated who and which institutions were the most resilient, Begüm Doğan Faralyalı said: "As an established Group that underwent many changes, overcame crises and was tested time and again throughout its 61-year long history, I believe that we have successfully overcome hardships in the conditions of the pandemic. This performance on the backdrop of such a period is the result of devoted work. Furthermore, it is also the outcome of locking on the common target and working in sync. I most sincerely congratulate each and every one of you and thank you on behalf of the Board of Directors."

Lastly, reminding that the business world has a bigger role to play and must be more engaged in the solving of increasing global economic, social and environmental issues, Begüm Doğan Faralyalı talked about the goals that they set for investing in the world, as well as in an inclusive society and future with the Doğan Impact Plan drafted in light of the United Nations' global call to action establishing its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Doğan Group CEO Çağlar Göğüş said "We are going through a particular and difficult period that we have not experienced before and which has many unknowns. The pandemic will eventually end thanks to accelerating vaccination works, but we know that nothing will ever be the same again. We are entering a period where businessmen and employees will have to take on responsibility as never before. In this respect, the Doğan Impact Plan is Doğan Group's roadmap."

Affirming that they are prioritizing talent management as one of the most important elements of competition in the reshaping business world, and that they will be managing this transformation together with employees, Çağlar Göğüş said "Without exception, all of our companies have a story, and we believe we give our employees the chance to write their success story in, without exception, each of our companies." and added "With the Employee Brand Project, we bring a dual-sided point of view where you are able to reflect your nature, to create personal impact and where your expectations are met in Doğan, our motto being Your Nature is in Doğan".

Göğüş also stated that as Doğan Group, despite all the negativities of 2020, they managed uncertainties very carefully as a team and closed the year positively and in line with goals, thanks to having a balanced portfolio and not having any adverse balance positions. In contrast with BIST 100's increase of 22% in 2020, they underlined that their shares have increased of 72% and their market values have surpassed 1 billion dollars for the first time. Indicating that 2020 was also a year of investment for Doğan Group, Göğüş affirmed that they invested in SESA Ambalaj with D Yatırım Bankası in July, and he emphasized that, together with their partners the Şavul family, they have no doubt that they will become a worldwide brand in the flexible packaging industry.

During the award ceremony moderated by Şule Zeybek, Doğan Group Member of the Board of Directors Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ, Doğan Group Member of the Board of Directors Vuslat Doğan Sabancı and Aydın Doğan Foundation Chairwoman Hanzade Doğan Boyner have joined the online live broadcast to congratulate the winning teams of each category and to bestow them their awards.
