Aydın Doğan Award Goes to Nuri Bilge Ceylan

14.04.2010

Aydın Doğan Award to be given in the field of cinema in 2010 went to Turkish film director Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

Since 1996 Aydın Doğan Foundation has been giving this award in the fields of art, culture, and the humanities to the distinguished persons who made important contributions to the society with their creative work.

In his speech at the Award Ceremony, Ceylan pointed he was not even sure his first films would be taken seriously. He said “I began making films to understand and tell people about a certain dimension of life, I thought, of importance to nobody but me. These films were like a bottle thrown to the sea or letters sent into darkness. But when a person insists on doing something, he succeeds." and added “Turkish cinema had revived in recent years and was drawing attention from all over the world. I think the Award is given to this revival in general and I am extending my thanks to the jury for honoring me as a humble representative of it" he said.
