Doğan Organik Ürünler
Founded in 2002, Dogan Organik Ürünler Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. established an Organic Livestock Breeding Facility in Kelkit, a region designated as a pilot organic agricultural area by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs due to its unpolluted soil.
Missioned to transform Kelkit region into an organic milk and livestock breeding hub, and to be a leader in that field in the country, the company is Turkey's one and the only organic raw milk producer, the only raw material supplier of organic drinking milk, and Europe's biggest organic livestock facility with an annual production capacity of 7,500 tons.
In 2004, the Enterprise Directorate-General of the European Commission organized a Europe-wide contest to increase awareness about corporate social responsibility in business operations. Among more than a hundred participants from across Europe, Kelkit Organic Livestock Breeding Facility project was qualified as one of the best ten cases. In this project, private sector, public sector and civil society take part.
Doğan Organik Ürünler earned its organic farming certificate from an EU-accredited company in 2005; then started to sell its raw milk to the Turkish market. In 2006, the company launched its contractual farming project; provided training direct to the villagers on organic fodder production, milking, animal shelter systems and fertilizer management, thereby making them participate in this organic raw milk production.
The Organic Livestock Breeding Facility also provides internship and job opportunities for the students and graduates of Kelkit Aydın Doğan Vocational School, which is Turkey's first school having an organic agriculture program.
With a social mission, the company aims to produce healthy milk without chemicals for consumers, leave unpolluted soil to next generations; help increase per capita income in Gümüşhane and decrease regional migration.
To achieve this goal, the company has conducted training activities in more than 50 villages in the region and attended various conferences on organic agriculture/animal breeding to increase public awareness for organic livestock breeding. It also took its place among the founding members of the Association of Organic Product Producers.
Doğan Organik Ürünler is the pioneer of establishing Turkey's biggest organic milk and livestock breeding hub and progresses towards being a role model for the Turkish agricultural economy.
